Dina Barco and José Condinho won the 2018 Lisbon Grand March Competition with the theme "Vasco é Saudade", which will be heard in the whole city on the night of St. Anthony.

At age 59, the language teacher, born in Setubal, made her best debut in the Great March Contest, writing the letter at the invitation of the composer and music teacher José Condinho of Palmela, author of the song of the winning composition of the Grande March of Lisbon 2018.

From a total of 28 applications received for this edition of the competition, “Vasco é Saudade” was the March chosen by the jury this year, composed by Maestro Carlos Alberto Moniz, representing the Portuguese Society of Authors (appreciation in general), the fado singer Aldina Duarte (appreciation of the lyrics) and Maestro Cesário Costa (appreciation of music).

As in previous years, the lyrics of the compositions should cover the theme “Lisbon” and, this year, cumulatively, “The Lisbon Song – Homage to Vasco Santana”, in honor of the Portuguese artist at the Lisbon Festivals, when marks the 120th anniversary of his birth and 60 years since his disappearance. Organized over two decades ago, the CML and EGEAC Competition offers everyone the opportunity to compose the lyrics and music of the Great March of Lisbon that will be the “hymn” of the city’s popular festivals. In addition to a cash prize, the song selected will be performed by all the Popular Marches at the Altice Arena exhibitions that precede the parade on the night of June 12 on Avenida da Liberdade.
